Bill Castner has been teaching golf to golfers of all ages and skill levels for nearly forty years in the Metropolitan NY and New Jersey area. Since 2009, he has been the PGA Head Golf Professional/General Manager at the Plainfield West 9 Golf Course in Edison New Jersey, as well as the Program Director for the First Tee of Plainfield. He is also a Master PGA Golf Professional in golf instruction.

Bill’s personal teaching philosophy is to take the strengths of each person’s swing and mold them into a repeating and natural motion. Bill believes that there is no such thing as “The Swing.” Instead there is a “BEST” swing that will work for each individual. By developing the golf fundamentals, each student will find their best golf swing. This swing will produce consistent ball flight.

Selected from over 28,000 PGA golf professionals, Bill was awarded the National PGA Youth Player Development Award in 2015. The “PGA Youth Player Development Award” bestows special recognition on a PGA Golf Professional, who has displayed extraordinary and exemplary contribution and achievement in the area of youth player development. The award considers the PGA Professional’s focus on Youth through their growth of the game leadership, commitment at the Section and National levels in the youth player development arena, and the meaningful impact made upon youth through the introduction and participation in the game.

Bill is constantly working on his knowledge of the golf swing, and constantly attending various seminars and summits to increase his knowledge of the game. He was one of the first PGA Golf Professionals to become a Master Golf Professional in Teaching.  Besides his many years of teaching experience, he is also a Certified TPI Golf Professional – in Fitness and Junior Golf. Bill has a strong knowledge of Homer Kelly’s Golf Machine.

Along with his teaching efforts, Bill directs The First Tee Program at Plainfield,  an affiliate of the First Tee of Metropolitan New York. This program at Plainfield was the first First Tee program to be associated with a private golf course in the United States.  Hundreds of junior golfers attend various First Tee programs over the course of the season.

Bill is very committed to making sure that his students are playing the right golf equipment. He is a certified custom golf-fitter for PING golf clubs (winner of a 2023 PING Powerfitter Award), Callaway, Taylor Made, Wilson, Titleist, US Kids, and other popular brands of golf items at great values. Bill encourages his students to discuss any golf equipment needs.
